Carlos Hernandez here; pleased to meet you. I guess my one-line bio. would be: writer and English professor living in New York. But here’s a little more. I’m a dabbler by nature, but work mostly on fiction: short stories and novels. I have a co-written experimental novel coming out soon, courtesy of Chiasmus Press, as well as several short stories in various magazines. Currently I am working on another novel that I hope to have drafted before the end of the year. It’s a bit kooky, but a lot of fun to write. Hope it’s as much fun to read. :)
Besides fiction, I’ve published poetry, plays (just two short ones), literary criticism and reviews. Currently, I’m refocusing my scholarly work toward studying how games might be used to augment learning–the so-called “serious games” movement. Hell, I’ve played enough of them in my life, and remain inexorably drawn to them: might as well try and find out if they did my brain any good.
And as a semi-non-sequitur, I am also creating a board game! I can tell you from experience that making a good game is at least as complicated as writing a novel, though the skills involved (e.g. math) can be very different. With any luck, I should finish a playable version soon. With even more luck, I will sell it, but if not, I’ll make it available through a Creative Commons license via the web.
There’s more — there’s always more — but that’s probably enough for this sort of thing. To find out more, well, go read my blog: nothing says more about me than what I write. So have a look around!
